Mr. Lane is an accomplished luthier and bassist living in Brooklyn, NY since 2007. His curiosity in music and how it's made has led him across the U.S. from

New Mexico to Michigan to NY. He obtained a Bachelor of Music Education from University of New Mexico in 2004. He went on to receive a Masters of Music Performance from Western Michigan University in 2007, graduating with honors.

Shortly after moving to NYC that year Zach was selected for an apprenticeship at the renowned David Gage String Instruments. After completing the apprenticeship he continued to work for David until the end of 2017. During his tenure there Zach studied with guitar maker Manny Salvador, violin makers Guy Rabut and Patrick Toole, bass maker Nick Lloyd, and bow maker Rodney D. Mohr. Working in one of NYC's biggest and busiest shops gave Zach an abundance of experience with the best players and instruments from around the globe.

In 2018 Mr. Lane started his own business to concentrate on instrument and bow making as well as high end repair and restoration. He is currently a member of the Violin Society of America, The International Society of Bassists, and attended the 2019 Oberlin Restoration Workshop, focusing on bow restoration and making. Most recently in 2021 Zach was a featured guest on the luthiers panel discussion at the virtual, International Society of Bassists Convention.

In addition to work, Zach tries to play the bass as much as possible, and record music in his home studio, and occasionally with some bands. He also enjoys natural wine :)
